These old comics are truly inane aren't they? I put together a long post on this exact subject material... here...http://theqog.blogspot.com/search/label/Justice%20Society

Inane? I'm not all that sure.

What they are is a very special kind of crazy. I've read three Archives worth of stories with them and I'm kinda fascinated that their default responses to problems are 1) travel in time and 2) punch someone.

This is usually my default response to problems, too. Clearly, I learned more from my comics than I guessed.

What is surprising to me at this late date is how surprisingly intelligent they could sometimes be, at least when they weren't going off on some jingoistic tangent. And damn, I spelled "jingoistic" correctly from memory.

It's funny that we think of the JSA as these kind, grandfatherly heroes, but they were fucking violent lunatics also.

They're awfully coherent for Golden Age comics, don't get me wrong. They just follow a very specific formula, and that formula is hilariously, bat-shit insane.
